H.G.DR. JOSEPH MAR DIONYSIUS
Chairman, M.P.Christian College of Engineering and Technology

To
The Vicar, Trustee, Secretary and Leaders of Parish,

Beloved in the Lord,

I am writing this to seek the support of you and your church members for the work of the Engineering College at Bhilai. As you know, M.P. Christian College of Engineering and Technology is the first Engineering College of Church and till now the only Orthodox Engineering College in North India. Some may ask, " Why should we help an engineering college? Is not an Engineering college making huge profits? How can an Engineering college be considered a social service or charity?

I would like to answer that we do not make any profit by running the engineering college. When St Thomas Orthodox Church Mission, Bhilai wanted to commemorate it's Silver Jubilee by doing something which our church did not do till that time, the idea of starting an Engineering College came up. At that time it was really difficult to get admission in Engineering. Parents had to pay some Lakhs of rupees in advance for the same. It was a blessing for many of orthodox students who could not pay huge capitation fee.

Though the number of Engineering Colleges had increased, there are only few institutions of good quality. Capitation is still a must in such colleges. In our college no donation or capitation is taken and yet we are providing quality technical education at affordable cost. We give preference to students of our community. Around 100 Orthodox Christian Students are studying here now. Many more are expected if we get more number of seats even 100% (280 per batch) as we are a minority institution. We should take the full advantage of the minority status by admitting maximum number of students and staff from our community.

We take only the Government stipulated fees yet we give scholarships to the poor students. We are pained to see bright students who could not continue their education due to financial difficulties. So it is really a social service to provide quality education at a very low cost. Otherwise the poor students will never get a chance to be engineers.

The big challenge before us can be put like this, "In a world of commercialization and profiteering, can a non profit organization survive?" Yes, we are optimistic, but we need the help and cooperation of all our church members.

Malankara Orthodox Church is very rich in human resources in every field. Why is it then that we do not get adequate staff from our own community? Why our members are not helping our college in campus selection? Don't we have a moral responsibility to promote an Orthodox College in North India?

We have some industrialists and IT professionals in every parish. Can't such people help to sign M.O.U's of some companies with our college to train our students or to recruit some of them? Please volunteer yourself or prompt such persons who can help the college as well as prospective teachers in your parish and send their addresses with the phone numbers and email ids to :
